Santana Sensei has been a martial artist for nearly forty years. He has trained quietly but diligently in Kosho Shorei Ryu since he met Mitose Sensei in 1977. He is also a master-teacher of both Filipino and Indonesian martial arts, and an expert swordsman and historian in European fencing. He studied Japanese-based karate in his early days, and was the mysterious teacher who Bruce Juchnik Sensei never named that taught him all of the Japanese karate kata with which he started to form his curriculum for Sei Kosho Shorei Kai. Santana Sensei was very close to Mitose Sensei in the last years of Mitose’s life, and introduced Juchnik Sensei to him about a year after he began studying with him. It was Santana Sensei that Mitose Sensei first asked to take the mantle of Headmastership of Kosho Shorei Ryu, and asked to publish his second book. They shared many conversations and lessons.

Students attending this event will witness the great technical skills and insights of the man who knew Mitose Sensei best, and who has stayed most closely aligned in his training with the direct teachings Mitose Sensei gave near the end of his life. For Kosho Shorei Shin Kai students, who are interested in the preservation of all eight of the Eight Arts of Kosho Shorei Ryu, Santana Sensei’s insights will be valuable in several key areas. He has maintained active and lengthy studies of spiritually-based energy arts, healing arts, meditation and philosophy in the spirit of what Mitose Sensei intended for diligent Kosho Shorei-ka. And as a martial artist and retired corrections and law-enforcement officer, Santana Sensei is highly-skilled and uniquely qualified to offer talented instruction in Kosho Shorei Ryu Kempo, especially in the area of edged weapons—so bring your training blades and sticks!
